i’ve said it a few times before and i still havent changed my view – i think record companies and all the people other than the music artists themselves should get a clue. i have a lot of mp3s on my hard drive. in fact with the present state of the piece of crap that is my computer i’d say my mp3s are equivelant to all the other files i have on the computer put together….and compared to my friends my collection isnt especially large. i find having places where i can download mp3s of songs is more likely to result in me buying a cd. the only reason i dont own every cd that has the songs i have on mp3 is because i dont have enough money to go out and buy them all. but i am trying.

when i do have the cash i buy whatever is the currently in heavy rotation on winamp at the time (i have ordered Garou’s album Seul and the french recording of Notre Dame de Paris, already have the english version, already have Sarah McLachlans Surfacing). everything else gets placed on the wishlist – present toppers of that are Natasha St-Pier, Bruno Pellitier, Alison Krauss, Tina Arena’s latest stuff.

in fact – after a minor Tina Arena downloading blitz recently was when I decided i wanted to buy the english Notre Dame de Paris cd, which started me on this silly obsession of mine. i am more inclined to buy something if i have had a good chance to sit and listen to a song for a while and because my tastes are so eclectic i am never gonna find a radio station that will play things from all the different styles i like. i only need one song to convince me to buy a cd.

so you dickheads running the music industry – please get a clue. leave my nifty mp3 peer-to-peer tools alone! otherwise i will be back to one cd every six months and a lot of mix tapes being made from old stuff.
