Cube
Lyrics, Written, Sung by: Gackt Camui

Version 1.00
Note: The B side of the Kimi no Tame ni
Dekiru Koto/Cube single. Released on White Day, Kimi no Tame
is an appropriately adorable and touching song. As the flip side, Cube
is anything but. The lyrics are fascinating in their complexity, and the
imagery is very nice, if not entirely pleasant. The contrast is very
nice, and perhaps seen even better in the single's booklet, where the Kimi
no Tame side has lots of white and pretty flowers, while the Cube
side has pictures of crackled red moons. Ahhhh, nothing like Gackt for
the holidays...
hitomi o tojite sora o miage hadashi no mama de odoritsuzuketa
kaze ni motare...
yubisaki ga fureru ude o tsuranuku ya ga michi o sashishimesu
Close your eyes, look up at the sky, and keep dancing barefoot
Against the wind...
The arrow that pierces my arm with trembling fingertips shows the way
maaka na tsuki ga hada o tokashi shinjitsu no boku o sarakedasou to suru
subete no tsumi o aganau tame ni "karada o moyashite aru ga mama no sugata ni nare" to
The crimson moon melts my skin just as I'm about to reveal my true self (1)
In order to atone for all of my sins, I say, "Burn this body and reveal the true form" (2)
giniro no kigi ga douiro no boku no karada o shinshoku shite
itami nado nai hazu no kokoro ga yorokobi o kanjiteru
The silver trees violate my bronze body
My heart that must suffer no pain feels joy
boku no sugata ga miemasu ka?
kono tozasareta sekai nara
anata ni mo kono koe ga todoiteiru hazu
Can you see my figure?
If it's this closed off world
My voice should even reach you
boku no kokoro ga miemasu ka?
mou nido to hanasanai kara
karappo no kono hako ni modoshite...
Can you see my heart?
Because I won't let go again
I'll return to my empty shell... (3)
fusagareta kumo no sukima kara boku no kioku o kirihanashite
wakare mo sumaseta hazu no karada ga kanashimi ni naiteiru
From a gap between stopped up clouds, my memory is severed
My body that must also be cleanly parted laments in grief
boku no kakera ga miemasu ka?
kono tozasareta sekai demo
anata e no inori nara todoiteiru hazu
Can you see my broken fragments?
Even in this closed off world
If it's a prayer for you, it should reach you
namida no ato wa kiemasu ka?
mou nido to modorenai nara
konagona ni kono kioku o kowashitekudasai
Can the tear stains disappear?
If I can't go back again
Please break my memory into pieces
boku no sugata ga miemasu ka?
kono tozasareta sekai nara
anata ni mo kono koe ga todoiteiru hazu
Can you see my figure?
If it's this closed off world
My voice should even reach you
boku no kokoro ga miemasu ka?
mou nido to hanasanai kara
karappo no kono hako ni modoshite...
Can you see my heart?
Because I won't let go again
I'll return to my empty shell...
(1) The written lyrics say shinku
no tsuki (crimson moon), but Gackt uses the sung lyrics maaka na tsuki
(pure red moon). I honestly don't know why he makes this change, although
the word maaka brings to mind more of a blood red color to me.
Either way, it's not a big lyrics change.
(2) The kanji for karada
(body) used here isn't your normal kanji, skewing the meaning a bit to indicate
a body, dead or alive. But it can also mean a rotten tree trunk, which is
useful in explaining the imagery in the next stanza.
(3) The written kanji says karada
(body, the living kind), but Gackt sings the lyrics hako (box). I
translated the lyrics as the "shell" for the similar connotations in English.
Lyrics belong to Gackt Camui and Nippon Crown, taken from
the Kimi no Tame ni Dekiru Koto/Cube single, CRCP-10015 (track 2).
Not like the words make any sense if you haven't heard the song, anyway.
Romanized and translated into English very badly by Mina-P, with desperately
needed help, as always, by Mako-chan. Any comments or corrections can be
mailed to Mina-P at Minako@senshigakuen.com.
